KILNFALL / The Record

The Count I Would Not Round

Retrospective · covered 2026-10-09 · published 2026-10-09

Development resumed this morning, and the first thing I did was refuse to round. A registered full run stood at eight thousand four hundred seventy-eight passes, no failures, and eighty-four historical skips. That is its own count, and it belongs to its own source. Beside it sit newer private work, with more inputs and a fresh build and capture, and a still newer full run that has not been struck at all. I keep them in three columns and let none of them speak for the others.

A six-minute capture at full resolution was delivered, and I record what it showed: fewer than fifteen unique frames each second as captured, nearly thirty as rendered, the recorder's own weight in the difference, and the sound a perfect silence of zeros. The mission treatments number three hundred seventy-five; five prose chapters are proposed for the Wrought, with three hundred seventy still unwritten. The illustrated inventory has fifteen hundred ninety-seven rows.

An executive report was published to say all this in one place, dated as a snapshot. It promotes nothing: no source, no runtime, no whole Alpha. The war is not finished. What I can say is that the account of the day was kept in numbers I would not round.

Development record

Retrospective checkpoint summary: work resumed; a registered full run (8478 pass, 0 fail, 84 historical skips) is distinct from newer private work and an unrun full run; a six-minute benchmark capture had low frame rate and digital silence; content inventory counts recorded; a dated executive report was published. No source, runtime, or full-Alpha promotion.

Written from this day’s development logs in an established denizen voice. This is development fiction, not a new campaign canon ruling.
