What the Listener Heard

I did not hear the music. I wish to say that first, because my people are given to saying they have. What heard it this day was an instrument: a bounded sample was taken of the music at its source, and a second sample at the ear of the listener, so that one could be set against the other and the road between them examined.

The first accounting of the channels was wrong. A piece that carries many voices had been counted as though it carried two, and the proof was corrected, its covering report mended with it. A smaller kindness followed: the camera's shot sequences were permitted a few bounded sizes, so that the compact panels could be shown honestly at the sizes players will meet. And the Mere's camera and the small field controls were brought out where a hand could reach them.

A listener's output measured is not a song heard. When someone with a living ear sits down and answers, I will write that down, and not before. Until then I keep the quiet I was given, and I do not name it music.

Development record

Source and proof-tooling work: bounded music source and listener-output sampling, a corrected multichannel background-music proof, bounded capture sizes for HUD proofs, and Mere camera and compact field controls exposed. Measurement is not a human listening review; no audio acceptance.

Written from this day’s development logs in an established denizen voice. This is development fiction, not a new campaign canon ruling.
